Grandfather's Story Cloth
Last year, SeAM began collaborating with Linda Gerdner, PhD, RN to obtain funding from the Extendicare foundation (based in Wisconsin) for the free distribution of 1000 copies of Gerdner’s book, Grandfather’s Story Cloth, to selected organizations that serve the Hmong-American community. The book is about both the experience of Hmong families living in America, and children’s experience with relatives with Alzheimer's Disease. Click here for a synopsis.
The book tells the story of a boy named Chersheng who must come to terms with his grandfather's dementia. But after Chersheng's mother produces Grandfather's storycloth, which brings with it tales of Grandfather's tales of leaving Laos for the United States, Chersheng discovers a way to create something lasting and meaningful for his family's new experiences in the United States.
For free copies while supplies last, contact SeAM. Adults interested in reading and discussing this book with their children can download a question guide written by the author.
